How To Wear: Dress Clips

Cartier, the masters themselves, were the original designers of the dress clip - a versatile and stylish accessory which has recently been exponentially popular on the red carpet, donned by beauties like Charlize Theron and Emma Stone.

Dress clips were popular during the Art Deco period, and were worn through the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. They have an understated way of accentuating a neckline and adding the perfect touch to any look!

The big question, however, is how to wear them in order to look chic and stylish. We suggest reading through the following few tips:

  • Use dress clips to accentuate your collar points
  • They are most flattering on sweetheart or square necklines
  • Wearing them with a scarf is also very dashing - clip one onto a shawl or a wrap
  • Add some pizzazz to a contemporary look by clipping one onto a belt or waistline
  • Pair a dress clip with a chain (or ribbon) to create a new choker / necklace
  • Clip onto a headband in order to make a gorgeous head piece

Dress clips, like any other accessories, are personal choices, and so it is important to choose ones that emulate your own style, and that go with other pieces that you have in your wardrobe. The range to choose from is vast - Art Deco, classic, embellished, simple, small, big . . . The best advise that we can give is to go for ones that are versatile and chic.

We can safely say that when it comes to dress clips, the best thing to do is to get creative, and come up with a plethora of different ways to wear them. They are highly underrated accessories that can change your look from drab to fab, so choose wisely and don't be afraid to think out of the box!
